Home Remedies for Nasal Congestion | How to Get Rid of Sinus Congestion Naturally

Nasal congestion is caused by cold, flue or allergy or even due to dry air and air pollution. Suffering will be due to swelling of nasal membrane and too much mucus production inside the nose creating obstacles for draining mucus produced in sinus cavities.
In infants, it could hamper in breastfeeding or nursing. Even in small children, it could be irritating, as it obstructs normal breathing and disturbs sleep. It could lead to watery eyes and sometimes difficulty in hearing. It could also result in snoring due to blocked nostrils.

Apple extract of vinegar fume is also very useful for the purpose of inhaling. It is very effective in treating the problem of nasal congestion. For this purpose you have to take 2-3 tablespoon of vinegar in a pan and allow it to heat until the entire vinegar is exhausted and you can inhale the fume which is produced by this vinegar. It is also an effective remedy for the treatment of nasal blockage.

Drinking plenty of water all through the day can keep your body hydrated and your nasal passages moist. This further helps in thinning the mucus so that it can be easily drained.

Mix one cup of tomato juice, a teaspoon of freshly minced garlic, half a teaspoon of hot sauce, a teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. This drink is packed with vitamin C and immune system boosting agents.
Pour a few teaspoons into your cupped hand and 'snuffle' the liquid into your nasal passages, then tilt your head back.

Steam can be a another great home remedy for nasal congestion. If you are able, hot showers or a steam room are a good choice. Of course, there is the old trick of holding your head over a steaming bowl, being careful not to let the steam burn your face. Putting an essential oil like mint oil or orange oil into the steaming water will strengthen the treatment.

Apply a warm compress to your face three times a day for 5 minutes. What you need to do is soak a small towel in warm water and then place it over your face below and between your eyes as this will help increase the circulation in your sinuses and so will help speed up the movement of your cilia. This is a popular home remedy for nasal congestion.
